Duties

Field work is performed in remote locations that requires field travel, overnight camping, and hiking in steep and rough terrain. Serves as an advanced trainee performing work designed to prepare the incumbent for progressive work assignments related to administering and executing work plans and projects for special uses activities. The incumbent will receive training in development and administration of annual work plans for special uses and recreation resources Receive training in more advanced skills, techniques and procedures, and will perform specific portions or minor phases of assignments involving the inspection of special uses. Participate in surveys and studies of wilderness areas, recreation facilities, trails, and their present visitor use and demand Receives training in the use and maintenance of various databases used to monitor unit’s special uses and recreation program activities.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. For more information on the qualifications for this position, visit the Office of Personnel Management's General Schedule Qualification Standards. Specialized Experience Requirement: GS-05: Applicants must have three years of progressively responsible experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level. Examples of qualifying experience include experience that may have been gained in administrative, professional, technical, investigative, or other responsible work and demonstrated the ability to: analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions; plan and organize work; and communicate effectively orally and in writing. OR A bachelor's degree or 4 years of successfully completed education above high school leading to a bachelor's degree in any field. OR An appropriate combination of successfully completed post-high school education and experience. Education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. GS-07: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as one or more of the following: Assisted in issuing and ensuring compliance for permits in land-use, recreation and/or non-recreation use; Assisted higher grade employees, or worked as a team member in inspecting recreation areas for public use and safety and/or accomplishing selected portions of projects relating to recreation, lands, trails, and special uses for preparation of management plans; Performed some aspects of special use permit administration, such as processing or monitoring special use permits; OR One full year of graduate level education in the field of study of natural resources or related to the position OR An appropriate combination of graduate level education and specialized experience. Education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
