You will serve as a FIRE PROTECTION INSPECTOR in the Fire and Emergency Services Division of MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON.
Duties
You will observe work processes in facilities such as aircraft hangars, warehouses, Bachelor Enlisted Quarters, munitions storage areas, mercantile facilities, business offices, schools, daycare centers, hospitals, or other similar facilities.
You will conduct investigations of destructive fires to determine fire causes and origin and/or criminal actions, which may have contributed to a fire loss or damages to public safety.
You will perform preliminary acceptance inspections of new fire detection, alarms, and suppression systems; and assist area fire protection engineer in conducting final acceptance of facility.
You will ensure code compliance and fire protection measures are included in the scope of work and in the construction phase.
You will develop and conduct training classes, lectures, demonstrations, and instructions with regard to fire prevention, fire protection, fire suppression, and fire investigation programs.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license within 90 days of appointment.

- This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- GS-08 Only: You are required to obtain and maintain the following firefighter certifications within 12 months of appointment: Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I and II and HazMat Awareness.
- GS-09 Only: You are required to possess and maintain the following firefighter certifications: Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I and II and HazMat Awareness.
- This is a Bargaining Unit position.
Qualifications
GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Conducting investigations of destructive fires to determine fire causes and origin and/or criminal actions; and interpreting and enforcing fire codes, regulations, and directives.
GS-08: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Inspecting facilities and structures for fire hazards and fire protection deficiencies, and performing functional tests on fire suppression system and fire alarms.
