Duties
You will be responsible for leading four to five subordinate GS-7 Firefighters on a daily basis.
You will be responsible for the initial lead in emergency incidents within the immediate jurisdiction until relieved by a chief officer.
You will be responsible to perform as a fully trained and certified EMT and serve as a member of a rescue team.
You will determine, initiate, and maintain proper medical care for patients, administer emergency medical care, and or rescue patients from structures, aircraft, and all types of vehicles.
You will perform administrative duties including promoting and enforcing policies and procedures.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- This is a Bargaining Unit position.
- You must possess and maintain a current valid State drivers license and be able to obtain and maintain a California DMV Firefighter endorsement within 90 days of employment.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- Must possess and maintain a State or National Registry EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN - BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (NREMT-B) certification. Must obtain a County of San Diego EMT accreditation within 90days of appointment.
- This position is considered Key/Non-Combat Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support of the expeditionary requirements in other than combat or combat support situations.
- Must complete the Emergency Vehicle Operator's Course within sixty (60) days of appointment.
- Must be able to lift/carry up to 100 pounds.
- Must possess the following firefighter certifications: Firefighter I/II, Fire Officer I, Fire Inspector I, Fire Instructor I, Driver/Operator Pumper, Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations.
- Must be able to obtain the Hazardous Material Technician certification within one (1) year of appointment.
Qualifications
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: firefighting and rescue operations, assisting in reducing and/or eliminating potential fire hazards; AND providing technical assistance to subordinates in fire suppression/protection for structures.
