You will serve as a FIRE PROTECTION SPECIALIST in the AC/S, Security & Emergency Services of MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON.

Duties

You will be responsible for managing the annual fire and fuel break maintenance program, evaluating secondary roads and requesting repairs. You will be responsible for designing, mitigating, and implementing wildland fiel management, associated fire and fuel breaks and new seconday roads. You will be a liaison for environemental and natural resource programs/projects between Environmental Security and the Fire Department. You will be responsible for administering and managing contracts between the Fire Department and other agencies pertaining to wildland fuel management and fires. You will instruct personnel in the operation of heavy equipment such as bulldozers, which may be used in the construction fo firebreaks, fire lines,used in suppression operations and secondary fire roads. You will be responsible for managing and maintaining the Hazardous Materials Waste Program. You will direct fire suppression operations as approproate, serve as Incident Command or any other assigned position within the Incident Command System (ICS) for major events.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You may be required to work a 56 hour work week which may be extended if needed.
  • You must posses a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain an appropriate U.S. Government Operatior permit.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You are required to take an annual physical via the Occupational heath Department following National Fire Protection Association Standards (NFPA) 1582 standards.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You are required to be DoD/IFSAC certified as: Fire Department Incident Safety Officer.
  • You are required to be DoD/IFSAC certified in IS-100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800.
  • GS-09: You are required to be DoD/IFSAC certified in: Fire Officer II, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, Strike Team/Task Force Leader within 12 months of hire.
  • GS-11: You are required to be DoD/IFSAC certified in: Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector II, Hazmat Materials Incident Commander, Strike Team/Task Force Leader, and Division/Group Supervisor.
  • You muist be certified at the appropriate certification levels as outlined in the DoDI 6055.06M Department of Defense (DoD) Fire and Emergency Services Training and Certification program.

Qualifications

GS-09 Your resume must demonstrated at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the priovate or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Assisting with designing, mitigating and implementing wildland fuel management, soccociated fire and fuel breaks and new secondary roads. GS-11 Your resume must demonstrated at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the priovate or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Designing, mitigating and implementing wildland fuel management, soccociated fire and fuel breaks and new secondary roads, managing a hazardous waste program, ceveloping annual burn plans and instructing personnel in the use of heavy equipment for construction of firebreaks and fire lines used in suppression operations.
