About the Position: Serves as a public services library technician, providing interlibrary loan and circulation functions. Serves as "Assistant-in-Charge" for the evening shift and for scheduled Saturday and/or Sunday shift, providing full-range of circulation, reader and reference services.

Duties

Maintain budget records for interlibrary loan expenditures. Utilize various automated systems to identify source material for library patron use. Assist in providing document delivery and interlibrary loan services. Interact with customers to explain basic searching technique to locate materials in databases. Serves as Assistant in Charge for evening and weekend shifts.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Incumbent must be able to lift in excess of 40 lbs.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: performing the full-range of circulation and reference functions from routine to more complicated, complex tasks using the library's automation system; resolving issues with patron registration, overdue materials, damaged, and lost library materials; AND utilizing various interlibrary loan networks to perform searches for materials. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: ClericalComputer LiteracyCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Technical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
