About the Position: The Library Technician performs a wide variety of technical and quasi-professional tasks in support of information services at Stimson Library, US Army Medical Center of Excellence (USAMEDCoE).

Duties

Recommend the purchase of additional copies based on circulation records. Explain library regulations governing the use of library materials and library circulation policies. Search library shelves to locate materials misfiled, missing or in need of repair. Maintain files related to elective/curriculum materials. Search for patron requested items based on reference sources.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent of this position may be required to perform shift work on short notice to include evenings and weekends.
  • This position has a Physical requirement and will be required to pass a pre-employment physical.
  • Incumbent must be able to lift in excess of 30 lbs.
  • A qualified typist is required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes; providing support to library patrons in accessing automated reference systems (bibliographic databases, public access computers, local area networks) to locate library materials; performing searches in catalogs and electronic databases based on specialized terminology and classification schemes to locate requested library items; utilizing an integrated library computer system to enter, import, and retrieve data to perform full-range of circulation duties; AND applying library regulations, procedures, and policies to library functions or specializations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Applies Technology to TasksComputersCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Manages Resources Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).
