About the Position: This position is located withing the Medical Library in the Department of Hospital Education at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, TX.

Duties

Prepare library statistical reports for managements review. Respond to library reference questions about print collection and virtual library. Utilize the on-line catalog system for print materials for internal and external customers. Serve as principal library technician for ready reference for journal articles.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position requires an immunization screening.
  • A candidate tentatively selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to annual seasonal influenza vaccination.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series. This position is subject to Tuberculosis screening.
  • Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position is subject to HEP B screening.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes work that involves: interpreting library regulations, procedures and policies related to library functions; ability to locate and retrieve important library information; cataloging and processing books; weeding and discarding old books; use of interlibrary loan networks including DOCLINE and OCLC (Online Computer Library Center); skill in performing interlibrary loan functions such as reviewing patron and library requests, placing and filling requests, resolving document delivery problems and maintaining interlibrary loan records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Library Science. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Computer LiteracyCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)ReadingTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
