About the Position: Serves as a public services library technician, providing interlibrary loan and circulation functions. Serves as "Assistant-in-Charge" for the evening shift and for scheduled Saturday and/or Sunday shift, providing full-range of circulation, reader and reference services.
Duties
Serves as Assistant in Charge for evening and weekend shifts.
Interact with customers to explain basic searching technique to locate materials in databases.
Assists in providing document delivery and interlibrary loan services.
Utilize various automated systems to identify source material for library patron use.
Maintain budget records for interlibrary loan expenditures.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- This position requires a pre-placement medical and annual medical surveillance exam in accordance with Occupational Health requirements.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing a fully range of circulation of library materials; preparing and receiving correspondence related to request for interlibrary loan activities; explaining library policy and regulations to patrons and instructing them in the use of library materials and equipment; independently resolves problems with patron registration, overdue materials, damaged, and lost library materials; performs searches using various interlibrary loan networks; assisting patrons on medical databases in assessing and retrieving information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
