About the Position: The Library Technician performs a wide variety of technical and quasi-professional tasks in support of information services at Stimson Library, US Army Medical Center of Excellence (USAMEDCoE).

Duties

Recommend the purchase of additional copies based on circulation records. Explain library regulations governing the use of library materials and library circulation policies. Check shelves to locate materials misfiled, missing or in need of repair. Maintain files related to elective/curriculum materials. Search for patron requested items based on reference sources.

  • Incumbent of this position may be required to perform shift work on short notice to include evenings and weekends.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes; Provide in-depth knowledge of a body of library regulations, procedures, and policies related to one or more library functions or specializations; Provide library operating policies, circulation procedures, ready reference sources, and basic operation of user-access equipment; Assist library patrons in accessing automated reference systems (LANS, bibliographic databases, public access computers, etc.) in order to locate library materials; Perform searches in indexes, catalogs, and electronic databases in order to locate requested items using specialized terminology and classification scheme of the collection; Utilize integrated library computer system's to enter, import, retrieve, and perform full-range of circulation duties; Operate a personal computer, and office software in order to prepare reports and briefs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
