About the Position: This position is located with the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, 406th Army Field Support Brigade, Logistics Readiness Center, Supply and Services Division, in Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
Duties
Evaluate, plan, and distribute work assignments on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
Develop performance standards, counsel employees on performance, and make formal and informal performance appraisals.
Establish a good working climate to encourage employees to participate in a safe work environment while achieving management goals, and to promote efficient and economical work operations.
Develop and establish internal procedures to be followed by subordinate leaders to assure effective control and direction of work activities and personnel supervised.
Ensure stocked inventory is adequate for customer demands.
Ensure inventories are being conducted in accordance with policies and procedures, while exercising control and accountability of supplies.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination to ensure the required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position is supervisory. A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties may be required unless previously completed.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Materials Handler Supervisor without more than normal supervision to include 1) Supervising workers directly or through subordinate leaders in accomplishing the work of an organizational segment or group; 2) Establishing deadlines, priorities, and work sequences, and planning work assignments based on general work schedules, methods, and policies set by higher level supervisors; and 3) Investigating work related problems and determining causes. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Physical Effort: Employees are often required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and to bend, stoop, and work, in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. They may lift and carry items that weigh up to 40 pounds. The heavier items are moved with material handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.
Working Conditions: Work is performed inside or outside, in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. Material handlers are regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injuries from falling stock. They may be exposed to dust, dirt, grease and solvents, and to high noise levels in mechanized work areas. When working in hazardous materials areas, they may be subject to exposure from radiation toxins, explosive hazards, or chemical fumes. Work requires the wearing of protective clothing such as hardhats, steel toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks, etc.
