About the Position: The incumbent plays a pivotal role in the navigability of District waterways. The major responsibilities include conducting surveys, coordinating equipment maintenance and serving as a quality assurance inspector.
Duties
Troubleshooting hydro graphic survey equipment.
Reviewing contracts to ensure compliance with environmental and safety laws and regulations.
Reviewing condition surveys of waterways and structures.
Responding to a wide range of inquiries from concerned citizens.
Communicating with internal and external contacts to gain insight on survey projects.
Monitoring data and channel conditions for safety.
Applying analytical skills to assess information in the field.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is Mission Essential.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 pounds in the regular performance of duties.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- Incumbent must obtain/maintain American Red Cross Standard First Aid card in good standing within 6 months of appointment.
- Incumbent must obtain/maintain American Red Cross CPR certification within 6 months of appointment.
- This position requires an FAA Drone Pilot License that must be obtained within 24 months of appointment.
- Incumbent must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Corps of Engineers boat license within 6 months of appointment.
- This position requires a physical examination.
- This position requires temporary duty or overnight business travel up to 40% of the time.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) Performing quality assurance field inspections, (2) Ensuring field activities are compliant with the environmental and safety regulations and standard procedures and (3) preparing detailed reports of field studies and/or findings. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
