About the Position: As an Engineering Technician, you will be responsible for ensuring the navigability of District waterways, conducting surveys, supporting the organizations program and coordinating equipment maintenance. Additionally, you will be tasked with monitoring data and channel conditions for safety, while gathering and providing the most up to date guidance, requirement and instructions to the appropriate functional areas.
Duties
Provide updated guidance, requirement and user instructions to the appropriate functional areas.
Interact with other functional areas to gain desired objectives for survey projects.
Troubleshoot hydrohprahic survey equipment.
Coordinate preventative maintenance and safety procedures.
Conduct hydrographic surveys of known obstructive and critical areas.
Monitor data and channel conditions for safety.
Apply both quantitative and qualitative analytical skills to assess information in the field.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 pounds in the regular performance of duties.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- Incumbent must obtain/maintain American Red Cross Standard First Aid card in good standing within 12 months of appointment.
- Incumbent must obtain/maintain American Red Cross CPR certification within 12 months of appointment.
- This position requires an FAA Drone Pilot License that must be obtained within 24 months of appointment.
- Employee must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Corps of Engineers boat license within 12 months of appointment.

Specialized Experience
One year of specialized experience which includes (1) conducting hydrographic surveys and troubleshooting equipment; (2) preparing detailed reports of findings and recommend corrective actions; (2) Providing system monitoring while processing data; (3) Tracking daily records and conducting maintenance inspections. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
