About the Position: Serve as a scientific subject matter expert, adviser, and technical authority for research, policies,programs, and practices related to integrated primary prevention of harmful behaviors.

Duties

Serve as a subject matter expert for the Army’s primary prevention capacity development in a highly specialized area of public health / prevention science. Serve as the technical authority in overseeing complex innovative research and analysis. Represent the Army at professional, DoD, and other government agency scientific and technical meetings. Collaborate with relevant partners to provide guidance on obtaining research approvals, receiving legal reviews and advice, and accessing data to perform prevention research and evaluation.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Per DoDI 6400.11, this position must acquire and maintain a Level 5 of the DoD Credentialing Program for Prevention Personnel (D-CPPP) in compliance with OSD guidance.
  • Must complete DoD SPARX Knowledge Part 1 and 2, training specific to prevention activities.
  • Complete all requirements to obtain the OSD Credentialing Program for Prevention Personnel (D-CPPP) credential.

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes preparing briefs and/or briefing senior leaders on harmful behavior prevention; conducting research of harmful behaviors in military communities; publishing findings on military community harmful behaviors; serving as reviewer for research articles; and involvement with internal review boards for research and evaluation. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Oral CommunicationTechnical CredibilityWritten Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-???????13).
