About the Position: Responsible for managing the industrial safety engineering, environmental engineering and occupational health programs for the installation, including safety engineering, environmental engineering, industrial hygiene, radiation protection, aviation safety, and industrial waste management.

Duties

Plan, direct, and control a comprehensive program involving a wide variety of industrial processes, shops, equipment, material, and machinery, some of which are unconventional and unique to the installation. Address union issues; determine a response to the media; and create a positive image for the garrison. Direct an organization responsible for a variety of diverse programs and services at a medium or large multi-mission military installation. Oversee and direct the work of the organization.

Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • One year supervisory probationary period is required unless previously completed.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of up to 10% of the time.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, which includes Managing safety or occupational health program elements; Developing and recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management; Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements; Developing safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards; and Developing or implementing programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Managing Human ResourcesOrganizational DevelopmentPublic Safety and SecurityTechnical Credibility Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
