About the Position: Fort Liberty is known as the "Home of the Airborne and Special Operations Forces." It is a culturally diverse area with both rural and city populations and is co-located at Fayetteville, NC. It is centrally located just hours away from the beautiful beaches of North Carolina and the scenic Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains. Fayetteville Regional Airport is located 12 miles outside of Fort Liberty's gates and Raleigh-Durham International Airport is 70 miles away.

Duties

Serve as a principal safety and occupational health specialist at the Corps. level of an Army Command Participate in all facets of Corps Safety Program, including program administration, coordination and evaluation. Advisor on safety matters with primary responsibility for formulating and promulgating Corps safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.
  • Incumbent may be required to deploy with assigned unit for periods up 365 days.
  • Incumbent will be required to pass a military standard physical examination.
  • The military ACU is the duty uniform (when deployed, or in field environment). Incumbent will be issued standard TA50 for use per local requirements.
  • Incumbent must be able to meet weapons qualifications requirements.
  • Incumbent must possess and be able to maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
  • Incumbent must possess or be able to obtain a U.S. Government Vehicle drivers license within 30 days of employment and be able to maintain the same.
  • Incumbent may be required to work nights, weekends, holidays and/or irregular duty hours commensurate with mission.
  • Work involves frequent visits and temporary duty in CONUS and OCONUS field sites as well as deployment and participation in military exercises in a variety of environments.
  • During deployment, physical demands may be greatly increased and will require extended walking with a rucksack weighing about 50 pounds.
  • Employee is required to work irregular and extended duty hours
  • Incumbent is exposed on a regular and recurring basis to machines and equipment in operation, hazardous materials including compressed gases and flammable liquids, and construction hazards.
  • Exposure to elements associated in combat and contingency operations in CONUS and OCONUS locations. Protective clothing and equipment are required for wear.
  • Employee may be required to perform work wearing chemical protection mask and clothing.
  • This position has been designated a Testing Designated Position.
  • This is an EMERGENCY ESSENTIAL (E-E) position subject to deployment. Anthrax inoculation program participation may be required to meet deploy ability requirements.

The OPM Qualification Standard as follows: - Managing safety or occupational health program elements. - Developing and recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management. - Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements. - Developing safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards. - Developing or implementing programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses. - Analyzing or evaluating new and existing jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards. - Designing or modifying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems to control or eliminate hazards. - Inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards. - Training of workers, supervisors, managers, or other safety and occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects. Work in occupational fields such as industrial hygienist, safety engineer, fire prevention engineer, health physicist, and occupational health nurse.].
