You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the Production Department Safety Branch (Code 900S.1), Production Safety Manager (Code O900S), Production Resources Department Analysis and Business Manager (Code 900A), Production Resources Department Production Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will conduct a variety of activities directed at identifying hazardous conditions, operations, procedures, and work practices, where the potential for injury, health impairment, and property damage exists in production work.
You will conduct scheduled and unscheduled inspections in buildings, dry docks, on ships, piers, and in various other facilities.
You will identify, evaluate, and provide recommendations, advice, and guidance in a full range of industrial functions to ensure abatement of unsafe or unhealthful conditions, procedures, and work practices.
You will provide mentoring assistance and direction to ensure prevention of injuries.
You will promote safety awareness through engagement in production shop, and project safety committee.
Requirements

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience analyzing, evaluating, and developing recommendations for improvement in program operations and objectives.
Experience implementing comprehensive knowledge of interrelationships between nuclear and nonnuclear requirements to accurately assess potential impact when conducting surveillances and trend studies.
Experience performing program analysis by developing and evaluating the effectiveness of new or modified program objectives and operations.
Experience conducting surveillances, gathering data, evaluating, conducting analytical studies, and providing consultation and assistance to department managers and supervisors.
Experience using management informant systems, office automation systems and processes, computer applications, principles, and techniques, including ability to develop and implement new automated systems for control and support of interrelated program operations.
Experience utilized data gathering, assessment, and analysis principles and techniques.
Experience applying complex analytical and problem solving methods and techniques to identify interrelated program problems, drawing conclusions, and recommending appropriate action.
Experience preparing and presenting oral and written communications and presenting evaluations and recommendations regarding complex issues including the preparation and presentation of reports, charts, and graphs.

Education
In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
or
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
or
LL.M., if related
