You will serve as a SAFETY & OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the Production Department Safety Branch (Code 900S.1), Production Safety Manager (Code O900S), Production Resources Department Analysis & Business Manager (Code 900A), Production Resources Department Production Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will perform VPP presentations and provide information on VPP concepts. You will utilize facilitation techniques at shop safety meetings to promote and encourage personal ownership of safety among employees, supervisors, and managers of all levels. You will provide interaction with various trades who are responsible for execution of production tasks.

Requirements

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience conducting scheduled and unscheduled inspections in buildings, dry docks, on ships, piers, and in various other facilities to identify, evaluate, and provide recommendations, advice, and guidance to ensure abatement of unsafe or unhealthful conditions, procedures, and work practices. Experience providing mentoring assistance and direction to other production shop personnel to ensure prevention of injuries, using Operational Risk Management (ORM) and VPP concepts, is planned into production work. Experience promoting safety awareness through the engagement in production shop, and project safety committee. Experience instructing and advising all levels of workers and management in program requirements, establishes and maintains liaison with all stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient coordination and compliance with established program requirements. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

PH.D or equivalent doctoral degree

OR

3 full years of progressively higher level graduate level education leading to such a degree

OR

LL.M, if related
