About the Position: Perform initial, in-process, and final inspection on a variety of light, medium, heavy wheeled diesel, gasoline and/or multi-fuel powered commercial, military and special purpose vehicles/equipment.
Duties
Conduct inspections of heavy mobile equipment and vehicle components repaired by shop personnel.
Classifies vehicles and equipment as to economically repairable or not economically repairable.
Post repairs or services to appropriate records.
Complete a variety of inspection reports and forms.
Use technical manuals and manufacturer specifications to determine requirements.
Review work/job orders.
Evaluate work completed to ensure it has been completed in accordance with standards and specifications.
Ensure quality control is maintained.
Refer discrepancies to shop supervisor for appropriate actions.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter. You must be able to lift 20lbs.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Heavy Mobile Equipment Repair Inspector without more than normal supervision.
Performs Field Level Maintenance on wide variety of heavy-duty mobile equipment and vehicles such as bulldozers, road graders, rollers and similar heavy construction and earth moving vehicles, front-end loaders, backhoes and similar power shovels, mobile cranes, heavy combat equipment, heavy wheel vehicles ranging from 1/4 ton through 20 ton, and heavy special purpose vehicles.
Determine repairs needed by visual and/or mechanical inspection of engines, power plants, automatic and non-automatic transmissions, gears of various types, drive train assemblies, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical utility systems, and controls.
Identify required parts and components by reviewing technical manuals determining the right part numbers or national stock numbers, Serial Numbers, Useable on Codes, and current pricing in completing service and repair work orders verifying repairs made, parts used and recording man hours.

Physical Effort: Work assignments are completed in uncomfortable positions. Works requires stooping, reaching, climbing, standing, and walking for extended periods of time. Auditory acuity to diagnose equipment malfunctions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.
Working Conditions: Work assignments are performed inside on concrete floors, outside on roadways and parking lots in all kinds of weather. Work area is normally noisy from vehicle engines. Exposed to vehicle fluids that may cause burns or irritate the skin and dirt and grease when handling items.
