About the Position: Serves as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in assigned areas of metrology with the primary emphasis on the calibration, measurement and operation of primary-level measurement standards and systems.

Duties

Serves as an engineering technician in assigned areas of metrology with the primary emphasis on the calibration, measurement and operation of measurement standards and systems. Applies a broad range of electrical engineering, physics, and statistical principles, laboratory best practices, and mathematical and error analysis techniques. Works with engineers, scientists, and technicians on the technical staff to develop, design and utilize systems and associated procedures related to hardware and software. Collects data and prepares reports documenting these efforts to provide certification for primary and secondary-level laboratory standards and systems.

  • Incumbent of the position must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • This position requires Temporary Duty Travel at 10%.
  • This position requires the incumbent to lift up to 50 lbs.

Specialized Experience: one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes: Assisting with calibration and measurement techniques, standards, systems, software, support instrumentation and laboratory processes to operate assigned systems and work effectively with the hardware, software, measurement parameters and quality control procedures of the assigned systems. OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as; Engineering. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Engineering and TechnologyProblem SolvingTechnical CompetenceTechnology Application Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06). NOTE: For most one-grade interval occupational series, the qualification standard calls for at least 1 year of specialized experience. Sometimes however, there is no position in the normal line of progression in an organization that is one grade lower than the position being filled. In such instances, 1 year of specialized experience at the second lower level (GS-05) is creditable for in-service applicants. However, for outside applicants (i.e., those without current or prior Federal competitive or excepted service), 1 year of specialize experience equivalent to at least the next lower level is required.
