About the Position: Serve as the Public Affairs Specialist in Media Relations Branch of the Fort Hood Public Affairs Office (PAO), Fort Hood, Texas

Duties

Organize and coordinate print and broadcast media interviews with staff members. Provide information on the III Corps and Fort Hood to academic and professional organizations through media and print venues. Prepare and disseminate news releases and feature articles to local and national media representatives on significant Fort Hood and III Corps events and ceremonies. Coordinate personnel, equipment and communications for all types of media events.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license, and any installation and/or DOD license required for the type of vehicle being driven.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes preparing communications strategies for mission and installation activities; responding to general public inquiries; and assisting in the planning and development of community relations and public engagements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Public Affairs, Journalism, Communications, or Marketing. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-???????09).
