About the Position: This position serves as the Director of Public Affairs at Fort Cavazos, Texas with responsibilities for planning, coordinating and directing public affairs support for all organizations on the installation to include community relations; media operations and facilitations; information strategies; liaison between tenant organizations, garrison and the public; legislative liaison, government relations and the garrison newspaper.

Duties

Serve as the principal staff advisor to the Garrison Commander and senior staff principals on matters involving public issues and the creation of communication policy. Respond as the official spokesperson and primary contact for local and national media that require immediate response and involve sensitive issues. Plan, implement and oversee effective internal information programs through multiple media venues, websites, newspaper and other internal communication media and forums. Manage, plan, and direct community relations, command information, media relations and social media programs and campaigns to convey information, build attitudes and change opinions about installation, Army and DOD programs. Supervise a Public Affairs staff of civilian personnel; assign, direct, and review work and determine training needs.

Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
