This position is located in the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Plains Area Office, Range Management Research Unit in Las Cruces, NM.
In this position, you will be responsible in planning and managing projects for the development, implementation and maintenance of network infrastructure, databases, web applications, and control systems critical to all aspects of Unit and collaborator research and the use of ARS facilities.
Duties
Oversee the design, operation, and maintenance of local server systems and databases.
Implement and administer database systems for the acquisition, storage, and retrieval of data for use by scientists and collaborators.
Execute automated local data backup systems, including on-site, off-site, and cloud redundancies.
Troubleshoot complex connectivity/data transmission/hardware issues for staff and collaborators.
Diagnosis problem with automation systems and manage interactions with facilities staff or contractors involved in controls.
Execute planning activities, design, and manage network infrastructure.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
Time in grade: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade to be considered for the next higher grade.
GS-13
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-12 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-11 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience working with scientists in the design and management of network infrastructure in context agricultural and ecological science research; overseeing spatial data management in an agricultural and ecological science setting; managing and build automation systems within an office laboratory hybrid system.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
