The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Directorate network administrator responsible for the planning, design, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, problem resolution and network asset management of switches, routers, firewalls, and other network security devices.
Duties
Work with service providers to enhance network performance while adhering to all INFOSEC regulations by integrating new routers, switches, firewalls, IPS devices, VPNs, and network devices into the current networks.
Documents all network configurations including network diagrams (physical and logical), interface, port, and Virtual LAN assignments, Internet Protocol (IP) address assignments and IP registration.
Plans and synchronizes network and system downtime with tasks resulting from updates or modifications.
Assists Section Chief with development of system technical refresh plans and budgets for timely technical refreshment acquisition of assigned systems software, hardware, and services.
Briefs management officials on IT systems, requirements, and the procedures required to obtain and organize enhancements.

Qualifications
Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions,for Information Technology Management Series, 2210 (Alternative A). There are no Group Coverage Qualification Standards for this series. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year or will have one year within 120 days of the closing of this announcement at the next lower grade, GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience include planning, designing, building, maintaining, troubleshooting, solving issues, and managing network assets for network configurations, firewalls, switches, routers, and other network security equipment. You also must have experience based on the following competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the DO-01 (GS-11) level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the DO-01 (GS-11) level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
