About the Position: This position is with US ARMY SPECIAL OPERATIONS COMMAND, COMMAND SECTION, ASSISTANT CHIEF OF STAFF, SAFETY OFFICE FORT LIBERTY, NC
Duties
Analyze mishap statistics and investigative reports; evaluates economic losses due to damaged property, severity of injuries sustained and environmental conditions surrounding mishaps.
Develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate safety policies, standards and regulatory, requirements for maintaining the Environmental, Radiation, Laser, OSHA, and Industrial Hygiene safety program compliance.
Develop and implement safety standards for a wide variety of worldwide special operations training under various geographical and climatic conditions.
Serve as technical advisor to commanders, staffs and other supervisors pertaining to safety matters during special operations exercises and training.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This is an Emergency-Essential Position.
- This is a drug testing designated position. The employee must successfully pass a urinalysis screening prior to the appointment and periodically thereafter.
- Work requires frequent onsite surveys with prolonged standing, walking, swimming, crawling, climbing, bending, crouching, stretching, reaching and other physical movements. May traverse rough terrain.
- May be required to wear protective clothing and equipment.
- The military OCP is the duty uniform (when deployed, or in field environment). Incumbent will be issued standard TA50 for use per local requirements.
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain a valid stateside driver’s license. Incumbent must possess or be able to obtain a U.S. Government Vehicle driver’s license within 30 days of employment and be able to maintain the same.
- Incumbent may be required to work nights, weekends, holidays and/or irregular duty hours commensurate with mission requirements.
- The incumbent may be required to meet certain medical requirements. Specific training, immunizations, and a deployable physical would need to be completed prior to deployment.
- Percentage of time spent TDY is up to 50%.
- Required to complete Level 1 Skills training (Safety and Explosives), attain CP12 Certification within 12 months from date of appointment and Level 2 Explosives within 24 months of appointment.
- Obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top-Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) High-risk training including special operations with foreign and specialized U.S. weapons and demolitions, static-line parachute operations, High-Altitude High Opening (HAHO) and High-Altitude Low Opening (HALO) with oxygen and combat equipment, water jumps, maritime delivery systems, underwater closed and open circuit diving operations, aviation operations and tactics (manned and unmanned systems) 2) Applying knowledge of national safety and occupational health laws, policies, regulations and standards to plan and implement programs; 3) Applying knowledge of range safety, tactical doctrine, and operational planning processes sufficiently to conduct independent risk management assessments; 4) Applying knowledge of safety and occupational health laws and regulations sufficiently to identify, evaluate, and control or mitigate hazards; 5) Applying knowledge of accident investigation and analytical techniques sufficiently to assess human, material, and environmental factors. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
