This position is within the FAA, Aviation Safety (AVS), Office of Aerospace Medicine (AAM), Civil Aerospace Medical Institute (CAMI), Aerospace Medical Certification Division (AAM-300), Medical Review and Appeals Branch (AAM-310). The Office of Aerospace Medicine develops and manages medical programs in support of Aviation Safety.

Duties

Incumbent performs multiple, varying, and complex assignments under the minimal direction of a supervisor/manager. Applies experience and comprehensive subject matter knowledge of the regulatory guidance contained in the Federal Air Regulations, FAA medical and legal handbooks, policy orders, and managerial approved reference material required in the examination and processing of Applications for Airman Medical Certificates. Performs quality assurance duties and trainer responsibilities for the Medical Review and Appeals Branch (AAM-310).

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTSTo qualify for this position at the FV-I (FG/GS 13) level, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-H (FG/GS 12) level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE includes: experience teaching and/or delivering adult instruction; experience with public speaking and presentations; experience developing course curriculum or experience with ISO 9000, Six Sigma, or any other quality/process improvement techniques; medical experience reviewing documents in case files/medical records for completeness and accuracy; using a variety of legal or regulatory references for document verification; examine and adjudicate airman applications for medical certification.Applicants should provide examples of specialized experience in their work history.ANDIn addition to the minimum qualifications, the following has been determined to be a selective factor for this position. This means possession of this criterion is part of the minimum qualifications and is essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position. Applicants who do not possess this criterion are ineligible for further consideration.SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (SPF): Candidates must demonstrate evidence of having skill in examining documents that denote the diagnosis and treatment of disease, injuries, and deformities and includes prescription and over-the-counter medicines and pharmaceuticals within their resume. Candidates who do not possess the SPF are rated ineligible/not qualified and will not receive further consideration for the position.
