About the Position: A Soldier and Family Assistance Program Manager is responsible for coordinating or carrying out a variety of social services type programs and links various military and civilian support services with the battalion's dispersed soldiers and family members.
Duties
Evaluate community service program operations to ensure accountability for the quality of services provided.
Use a network of personal contacts to locate and evaluate possible new sources of assistance for the Soldiers and Families.
Recruit volunteers to ensure continuity in providing program services.
Plan and monitor expenditures as appropriate to support Family programs and quality of life initiatives.
Publish articles/information within the battalion concerning identification, reporting, and intervention.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
- This position is designated as moderate risk involving Public Trust. Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation including a credit check to determine suitability for Federal employment and/or the position.
- May be required to complete a 1 year probation period.

Basic Requirement for Soldier and Family Assistance Program Manager:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as Social Work, Psychology. Note: You must submit copies of your transcripts.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. Note: You must submit copies of your transcripts.
OR
C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes developing and implementing Soldiers and Family support services and assisting with services such as relocation, housing, medical care and available healthcare programs; and/or providing briefings on entitlements, spouse employment, schools and special educations services. This defenition of specialzied experience is typical of work performed at te second lower grade/level pisition in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Social Science, Child and Family Studies, Psychology.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
