About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY, nestled in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from NYC, is the oldest continuously occupied military post in the U.S. It's a self-contained city offering housing, libraries, hospitals, theaters, and recreational facilities.

Duties

Prepare and publish Operations Orders (OPORDs). Prepare reports, studies and memorandums. Provide guidance and assistance to directorates and staff elements. Coordinate operational support taskings.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 1 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary, the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) applying policies and procedures involving the conduct of operations, plans and missions, including the transition to and continued implementation of emergency/disaster operations plans;(2) preparing and publishing operations orders and other taskings required for the implementation of recurring events, special functions and ceremonies; (3) analyzing completed events for effectiveness, efficiencies, and adherence to policy; and (4)developing and publishing installation or organizational-level messages, warnings, operations orders and taskings for emergencies, non-emergencies and/or day-to-day operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Business Administration, Operations Management, Logistics Management, or Business Management. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Oral CommunicationOrganizational AwarenessWritten Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the second lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
