About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley,50 miles from New York City .The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America.

Duties

manage and direct fire and emergency services programs provide emergency response services for structure fires Through subordinate supervisors/team leaders, performs a wide range of managerial tasks in planning, managing, directing and evaluating law enforcement operations with full authority to make decisions and commit to a course of action. Represents the garrison for law enforcement and fire protection/prevention law enforcement matters to the surrounding civilian communities to include the local, county and state police and fire departments. Plans and coordinates what is to be accomplished by subordinate staff. Consults with subordinates on training needs, develops and administers an overall training plan for the Emergency Services Directorate.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position requires the incumbent to possess, or obtain and maintain, a valid regular or official U.S. Passport.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Law EnforcementLeadershipOral CommunicationPhysical SecurityWritten Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
