About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America
Duties
Coordinates, plans, and executes formal and informal installation training support programs having a direct impact on training operations and Soldier readiness.
Conducts periodic staff visits to assigned units to review their training programs and makes necessary recommendations to ensure the efficient utilization of training resources, and for improvement of training standards.
Plans, oversees, assigns, and evaluates work of subordinates and the unit.
Hears and resolves group grievances or serious employee complaints; reviews and approves serious disciplinary actions.
Keeps employees informed on all changes in personnel policies.
Responsible for developing, planning, and executing operation and maintenance activities for training ranges, land, and facilities.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Occasional travel is required.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Coordinating, planning, and executing a training support program having a direct impact on training operations and soldier and/or customer readiness to include scheduling training, and allocating training resources; 2) formulating and implementing training plans, directives and procedures; and 3) directing operation and maintenance activities for training ranges/areas and facilities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-12.
