You will serve as a LEAD FIREFIGHTER (HAZARDOUS MATERIAL TECHNICIAN) in the NAVAL CONSTRUCTION BATTALION CENTER GULFPORT of NAVCONSTRBATCTRGPT.

Duties

You will consider factors (e.g., wind direction, topography, sources of water, environmental hazards) to determine the positioning of fire apparatus, equipment, and tools in firefighting operations. You will establish on-scene control procedures (e.g., zone control, decontamination) in a hazardous material incident. You will identify performance, progress, disciplinary, and training needs of crew members. You will check new fire protection systems or equipment to verify correct installation and performance. You will administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillation (AED) for a patient.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing leadership for day to day emergency and non-emergency responsibilities and duties; 2) Providing training regarding fire prevention or emergency procedures; 3) Evaluating subordinate fire fighter performance; 4) Assigning staff to a pumper, aerial ladder truck, or airport rescue firefighting (ARFF) vehicle in firefighting and rescue operations; 5) Reading field maps to become familiar with ground areas, specific locations; 6) Ensuring that workload is balanced at the fire/rescue scene or in the station; 7) Performing rescue of personnel and providing a variety of first aid measures to alleviate further injury and prepare the victim(s) for transport to a medical facility. (NOTE: Your answer must be supported by information in your resume). This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter I/II, Hazmat Operations, Driver Operator Pumper, NREMT, Fire Officer I, and Fire Inspector I. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached copies of your certifications, you will be rated ineligible.
