This position is located in the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), Office of Inspector General (OIG), Immediate Office of the Inspector General in Arlington, VA. This position serves as a Public Affairs Specialist responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating the communication and information programs to determine effectiveness in communicating operations, programs, policies, and activities of OIG.
Duties
Leads the development and execution of a comprehensive nationwide communications strategy for the Office of Inspector General (OIG) in alignment with the Inspector General Act.
Plans and implements effective communication plans, campaigns, and tools to inform both internal and external audiences about OIG operations, programs, policies, and activities.
Addresses communication challenges in various program areas and collaborates with staff to convey agency messages. Coordinates and executes OIG events, fostering employee engagement, diversity, and inclusiveness initiatives.
Creates informational materials, such as briefings, press releases, speeches, and digital content, and builds relationships with government agencies, media, and the public.
Compiles OIG documents, including the Semiannual Report to Congress, while evaluating their effectiveness and adherence to policies.
Qualifications
Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. To qualify, applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the 12 grade level or above in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience that include performing ALL of the following tasks: writes and edits press releases and other written materials and responds to media inquiries in a timely manner; and advises leadership on and implements internal and external communications strategies and tactics; and coordinates closely with program offices and leaders to promote agency policies and strategic objectives.
