Position is located in Warren, Michigan, which is a core city of Metro Detroit.
Duties
Serves as Security Specialist for the U.S. Ground Vehicle Systems Center (GVSC).
Incumbent performs duties characteristic of a Security Specialist, accomplishing a variety of duties in support of the overall work of the organization.
Receive, review, process, and adjudicate requests for investigations, security clearances, and reports of unfavorable information.
Responds to a wide variety of personnel security requests from subordinate organizations and other government and contractor agencies, as well as the Defense Security Service (DSS) and Office of Personnel Management (OPM).
Manage, implement, evaluate, and oversee day-to-day operations, methods, and procedures of the Command’s Information Security (INFOSEC) Program.
Reviews and develops security classification management guidance and advises on procedures governing the classification, declassification, downgrading, and safeguarding of national defense or other sensitive information.
Serve as a point of contact for Industrial Security Program matters pertaining to DOD contractors visiting and/or contracted to perform work for the organization.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A SECRET security clearance is required.
- Occasional Travel (up to 10%) may be required.
- This position has been identified for the Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) Certification Program.
- This position requires the incumbent obtain the following core SPeD Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within their first two years of employment.
- A three year probationary period may be required.

US Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Ground Vehicle Systems Center (GVSC) is participating in an alternative personnel system known as the Laboratory Personnel Demonstration Project. The DE-02 pay band is equivalent to the GS-05 step 1 to GS-11 step 10 level.
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) Overseeing an organization's security program in accordance with existing regulations and policies; AND (2) Providing security support for two or more of the following security programs: Personnel Security (PERSEC), Industrial Security (INDUSEC), Foreign Disclosure (FD), Information Security (INFOSEC), or Technical Security or their associated training requirements). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-4).

Specialized experience is progressively responsible intelligence-related security work directly related to the position being filled. Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector or in another government agency as long as it was at a level at least equivalent to the next lower band in the series.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service DE-01(GS-04 equivalent). Please note: Pay Band DE-02 is equivalent to a GS-05 to GS-11 grade levels.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
