About the Position: Serves as principal Safety and Occupational Health Specialist at the Brigade level of an Army Command or equivalent. The program embraces a diversity of high risk factors to meet training and mission readiness requirements. The duties and responsibilities of this position require or authorize the individual to participate in the formulation, development, implementation, and enforcement of the Safety Program's policies, directives and regulatory guidance.
Duties
Serve as the Safety and Occupational Health Manager for a Brigade.
Analyze, and provide risk management control measures for life-threatening hazards.
Conduct inspections to evaluate the safety and occupational health practices of an organization.
Ensure proper accident notification and investigation procedures are followed.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must complete all required training and achieve the CP-12 Level 1 and Explosives Safety Level 1 professional certificates within 12 months, or prior to deployment.
- The incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster)
- This position has been designated as "Emergency-Essential". Emergency-Essential designation takes precedence over any transportation agreement or military recall status.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness.
- This is a deployable Department of the Army Civilian position. As such, incumbent must pass an Initial and annual medical examination and receive/maintain up-to-date required immunization for the overseas or deployed location.
- Incumbent must stay in compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 50% of the time. Are you willing and able to travel away from your permanent duty station up to 50% of the time?
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position requires the incumbent to possess, or obtain and maintain, a valid regular or official U.S. Passport.
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, which includes experience in 1) administer a safety and occupational health program. 2) Ensure safety requirements are followed for environmental, radiation, live fire training, base operations, construction plan review, transportation (rail, barge and air operations), and ammunition/explosives, industrial operations; 3) development of brigade guidelines, policies, procedures, and courses of action for safety; 4. Conduct inspections to evaluate the safety and occupational health practices of an organization.5. Investigate mishaps, accidents, or incidents to report out on findings.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
