You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the COMPLIANCE & QUALITY DEPT, FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHEAST of FLTREADCEN SOUTHEAST.

Duties

You will advise management on occupational safety and health requirements so the appropriate services, equipment, materials, and general operating supplies that meet safety standards are available or procured. You will track the progress of work (e.g., cases, correspondence) through the system to meet time limits. You will conduct a wide range of safety inspections to assure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and agency standards. You will analyze mishaps and hazardous conditions to determine origin, causes, and contributing elements to prepare written reports. You will enforce safety and occupational health standards according to federal Occupational and Safety Health (OSHA), Department of Defense (DoD), and other installation policy and directives. You will inspect worksites, work operations, and conditions to record hazards and obtain evidence of regulatory violations through use of measurement devices and photography of unsafe and unhealthful working conditions.

Requirements

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:1) Advising supervisors and safety representatives of appropriate safety and occupational health measures to control or eliminate hazardous operating processes or environmental conditions. 2) Preparing and revising safety instructions and guides that are relevant to current or planned contractor and base employees. 3) Communicating with managers, supervisors, safety and health specialists, and medical personnel to determine the extent of injuries and/or the cost of property damage. 4) Preparing final report of findings with recommendations to correct unsafe acts or conditions that caused the personnel injury or property damage. 5) Utilizing knowledge of Federal Occupational Safety and Health standards developed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in order to develop specific methods of prevention of workplace injuries and illnesses encountered in an industrial environment.
