The incumbent of this position serves as the Program Support Assistant for the Infection Control Department at the VA Medical Center. The incumbent provides administrative and semi-technical support to the facility Infection Control Program and direct administrative support to the Hospital Epidemiologist and Infection Control Department.

Duties

Duties to include but not limited to the following: Incumbent performs a wide variety of administrative, management or program duties under the direction of the service chief. Incumbent proceeds independently to plan and carry out assignments and provide advice necessary for the proper functioning and management of the department. Incumbent provides administrative as well as technical support assistance to the Infection Control Service. Performs work related to the practical and technical aspects of office administration including personnel administration, timekeeping, budget, supply management, equipment inventory, data processing, surveillance data, project tracking and files management. Performs a variety of clerical tasks in support of the office. Receives visitors, telephone calls, distributes incoming mail and correspondence. The incumbent prepares correspondence and reports and provides administrative support to the Infection Control Committee. Reviews outgoing correspondence for conformance with general policy, factual correctness, adequacy of grammar and related mechanical features. Prepares travel documents, clearances, itineraries, schedules, summaries, etc., and maintains follow-up for timely administrative and fiscal approvals. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/15/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: using a computer to analyze or process incoming forms, records, or other documents, experience in program management support ,operate a variety of technical equipment, i.e., PC in a Windows environment, calculator, copier, fax and other related computer applications; prepare correspondence and reports ensuring correct grammar, spelling punctuation and in correct format; accurate record keeping and maintain a calendar of required reports and ensure proper completion. (CLEAR DETAILS OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Your resume must show complete information for each job entry, such as beginning and ending dates of employment, duties performed, and/or total hours worked per week.) OR, Education: As a general rule, education is not creditable for this position; however, graduate level education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position. To qualify for this positions based on education, applicants must have completed at least half of the first year of graduate level education. Unofficial transcripts are required. OR, Combination: Applicants may qualify for this position with a combination of specialized experience and directly related graduate level education. Unofficial transcripts are required. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Experience with Infection Control Annual Report and Risk Assessment and Plan for the hospital. Program development of resource materials, including educational brochures and signage, and New Employee Orientation (NEO) information. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, although some minimal physical effort (walking, bending, carrying light supplies, etc.) may be required. Work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and climate-controlled office.
