You will serve as a Lead Engineering Technician in the Diesel Engine Branch (Code 264), Main Propulsion and Electrical Division (Code 260), Engineering Department (Code 200) of MID ATLANTIC REGIONAL MAINTENANCE CTR.

Duties

You will articulate and communicate to the team the assignment, project, problem to be solved, actionable events, milestones, and/or program issues under review, and deadlines and time frames for completion. You will train or arrange for training of team members in method and techniques of team building and working in teams to accomplish tasks or projects. You will prepare reports and maintain records of work accomplishments and administrative information, as required, and coordinate the preparation, presentation and communication of work-related information to the supervisor. You will research, learn and apply a wide range of qualitative and/or quantitative methods to identify, assess, analyze and improve team effectiveness, efficiency and work products. You will monitor and report on the status and progress of work, checking on work in progress, and reviewing completed work. You will maintain program and administrative reference materials, project files and relevant back-ground documents and make available policies, procedures and written instructions from the supervisor. You will perform functional checkout, grooming, adjustment, and test of new or modernized shipboard systems in a systems qualifications test environment (a majority of which is at sea),

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • Must hold an active US Navy Fleet Diesel Engine Inspector certification.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience in engineering and electronics terminology is required as applied to marine machinery electricity, electronics, and weapons. Experience interpreting plans, schematics, drawings and specifications and make field adjustments/modifications as required. Experience demonstrating a broad technical knowledge of naval shipboard systems and components through experience in ship repair, operation, or troubleshooting. Understanding of shipboard equipment testing and assessments and the identification of out-of-parameter conditions on ships. Experience resolving technical shipboard issues, showing proficiency in the areas of Fleet Technical Assistance, Assessments and Inspections, Repair Recommendations, Repair Oversight, and Logistics Support. Experience leading a team of government employees, military members and contractors in the performance of assigned tasks and assignments.
