You will serve as a IT Specialist (SYSADMIN) for the System Support Branch (TRF-620) within the Information Systems Department (TRF-600), of TRIREFFAC KINGS BAY.
Duties
You will provide technical authority and resolution of complex software, hardware and system management problems.
You will direct and coordinate other government and vendor assistance if outside assistance is required.
You will plan, organize, staff, direct, and control all actions related to overall intermediate level maintenance and supply support for the OHIO Class submarines.
You will provide a wide range of IM and IT support intended to ensure that dedicated systems, software, supporting equipment, and documentation are fully operational and available at all times.
You will install, configure, test, and maintain specific operating systems.
You will plan and coordinate the installation, configuration, and implementation of software upgrades.
You will analyze system requirements in the response to business requirements, risks, and costs at the request of the agency.
You will integrate hardware and software components within the systems environment and monitor and fine tune performance of the systems environment.
Requirements

- Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- This position is designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position. You must obtain and maintain the credentials as described in SECNAV M-5239.2 for specialty area CODE 451 level INTERMEDIATE within 12 months of appointment.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.

Qualifications
I have one year of information technology related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined:
1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
In addition to my experience demonstrating the four competencies above, I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-09 or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience can be defined as:
Experience conducting cost efficiency and performance assessments on multiple operating system environments.
Experience developing solutions to complex operational problems and ensuring high reliability and optimal availability and performance of applications.
Experience with information security and information assurance policies, principles, and practices and ensuring that they are integral element within the operating environment.
Experience configuring and optimizing network servers, firewalls, routers, virtual private networks (VPNs), and switches.
Experience assisting with the preparation and dispensing of all outdated computer hardware to either be reutilized at other activities or properly disposed of through DOD DRMO process.
Experience resetting and unlocking user passwords for operating systems and databases and locating and releases customer records which and have been logically locked within an automated database system.
Experience advising customers on procedures to obtain software and sources of additional information such as technical manuals and training sources.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
Education
- Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent degree if related to position.

- Successful completion of Three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such degree if related to position.
