You will serve as a SUPERVISORY TRAINING INSTRUCTOR (ARPA/RADAR) in the Mariner Skills Training Center Atlantic (MSTCLANT) Norfolk, VA of SURFACE WARFARE OFFICERS SCHOOL.

Duties

You will serve as a first level supervisor in the Mariner Skills Training Center (MSTC) for the RADAR Fundamentals/automated RADAR Plotting Aid (ARPA) Observer Training Division. You will assist in monitoring adherence to departmental and command policy, assisting in the development of budget and manpower requirements. You will monitor and evaluate staff performance and mentor staff in the performance of their instructional duties.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Instructs students in Navigation, Seamanship, and Ship handling (NSS), Bridge Resources Management (BRM), Advanced Ship handling , and Leadership as well as curriculum development for new courses of instructions; 2) provides guidance in instructional techniques and competency assessment methods and practice involving the use of bridge simulators, the operation , capabilities, and limitations of such simulators; advances ship handling principles; 3) defines instructional and student performance requirements and standards in alignment with Fleet Skill Objects, Human Capital Objects; and 4) reviews policy decision and safety investigations/mishaps reports affecting Navigation, Seamanship, and Ship handling for applicability, incorporate pertinent information into current course content, and brief instructors on revised content.
