About the Position: This position is located in the Tank-Automotive and Armament Command (TACOM) Field Support Operations, Fleet Management Expansion, located on Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Fort Leonard Wood is located in the beautiful South-Central Missouri Ozarks. The Fort covers more than 61,000 acres and is located in Pulaski County, bordering Waynesville/St. Robert and Interstate 44. St. Louis is a 2-hour drive east and Springfield is a 1-hour drive west of Fort Leonard Wood.

Duties

Ensure needed plans, material and tools are available. Operate a tractor trailer with a gross vehicle weight of more than 26,000 pounds to transport heavy mobile equipment. Use Automated Supply/Maintenance Management Systems such as: Global Combat Support Systems (GCSS). Assist in the training of assigned personnel in maintenance and repair. Perform operational inspection and ensure vehicles and equipment are properly serviced. Maintain a current knowledge, answering questions of other workers on procedures, policies, and written instructions.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health, ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • he duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a military Driver's License to operate vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer Leader without more than normal supervision. 1) Ensure duties are performed using proper safety practices and equipment; and 2) Perform Field Level Maintenance and repairs on heavy duty mobile equipment and vehicles such as road graders, conveyors, bulldozers, power shovels, heavy duty compressors, large generators, tractors, large trucks, tanks, tracked combat vehicles, cranes and accessory equipment. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Work frequently requires climbing on top of equipment or crawling under equipment to work on the various components. Incumbent will frequently have to bend, reach, stretch, and crouch. Work is strenuous, often requiring the lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 50 pounds. Incumbent will also push, pull, and turn heavy parts and equipment. Moves heavier items with assistance of other workers. WORKING CONDITIONS Works inside and outside. The incumbent is exposed to drafts, dirt, grease and vehicle fumes. Incumbent is exposed to some inclement weather such as rain, heat, snow, cold, and freezing temperatures; and may be required to work in muddy and wet or icy areas when outdoors. Subject to burns, scrapes, cuts, bruises, shocks and strain.
