About the Position: This position is located at Womack Army Medical Center in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Duties

Initiate, schedule and conduct safety and health inspections involving physical layouts, construction procedures, equipment, fire prevention and protection, hazardous and infectious materials, etc. Prepare written reports of findings, recommend abatement measures and corrective actions and work with employees, supervisors and senior management officials to resolve problems. Investigate accidents and injuries, both on and off the job, to determine causes and corrective measures. Complete formal investigative reports and submit with recommended countermeasures through command channels to higher headquarters. Work with supervisors to correct systemic problems and prevent recurrence. Develop and conduct various safety training and educational programs for supervisors and employees needed to meet requirements of the medical center and other supported activities. Coordinate programs to the individual situation, prepare presentations and develop training aids to conduct the training. Provide orientation to new employees and conduct continuing education and refresher training for existing employees. Review plans and specifications for construction and renovation of facilities to assure compliance with applicable safety, occupational health and fire prevention and protection codes, requirements and practices. Carry out delegated personnel management responsibilities. Interview and select personnel for vacancies. Approve annual and sick leave. Receive complaints and grievances, resolving those which can be informally resolved. Hold corrective interviews with employees and effects minor disciplinary actions if required. Coordinate with Union representatives and Management Employee Relations, ensuring compliance with appropriate regulations, agreements, and directives.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance/background investigation.
  • Incumbent must complete the cp-12 level 1 skills outlined in the 0018 job series master training plan and be awarded the cp-12 safety and occupational health professional certificate within 12months of hire.
  • This position requires employee to work under adverse environmental conditions.
  • All employees assigned to a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) are required to be screened for applicable immunizations.
  • Physical exam may be required.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
