About the Position: This position is with the Fort Liberty Family Advocacy Program. This position serves as the Army Family Advocacy Program (AFAP) Specialist for the Fort Liberty community by developing and implementing Fort Liberty staff training program concerning domestic violence, suicide prevention, and child/spouse abuse.

Duties

Collaborate with community organizations to provide services. Maintain library of service information concerning Family Advocacy Program policies to provide the Fort Liberty community. Coordinate Army Family Advocacy Program training for the Fort Liberty Community. Conduct organizational briefings on Family Advocacy Program policies and services. Provide community outreach to create awareness regarding the extent and nature of family violence. Conduct education classes for Family Support Groups and the community on the prevention of domestic violence and child abuse/neglect. Educate commands on Army Family Advocacy Program policies. Teach Life Skills classes, including Stress and Anger Management, to the Fort Liberty community.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a Child Care National Agency Check and Inquiries (CNACI), IAW DoDI 1402.05, AR 608-18 (MPs-NCIC, ASAP, ACR State Child Protective Services) and Army Directive 2014-23, IMCOM G9 Memorandum, dated 26 June 2015.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • Must be available to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • This position requires overnight business travel 10% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes implementing a training program on subjects to include the prevention of domestic violence and child abuse/neglect; AND conducting education classes such as stress management, anger management, or various prevention methods for the community; AND coordinating specialized training for military leadership on policies and their role in the prevention of domestic violence and child abuse/neglect; AND providing community outreach to create awareness regarding the extent and nature of family violence. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Criminal Justice, or Marriage, Family, & Child Counseling. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
