This position serves as the Assistant Chief for the Medical Administration Service and is responsible for organizing, planning, directing and controlling work related to processing applications for medical benefits, reception, determining eligibility, admitting, outpatient clinic scheduling and processing commitments, transfer of patients, ward administration, health information and public relations related to these programs.
Duties
Major Duties Include:
Utilizes sound management practices to assist in the supervision and/or directing of administrative support activities.
Interprets, analyzes and advises upper management on the policies and regulations related to care and treatment of patients.
Provides solutions to existing and possible problems, identifies long and short-range needs, formulates proposals for leadership consideration, and initiates improvement actions.
Maintains statistics for recruitment and vacancies.
Determining and managing fund control for a budget, short and long range projections.
Perform personnel support activities such as recommending hiring selections; evaluating performance; disciplinary actions; investigating, patient and/or family member complaints.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00a.m. - 4:30p.m.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/23/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-13 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-12 level. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
Specialized Experience: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-12) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to...Utilizes sound management practices to assist in the supervision and/or directing of administrative support activities; Provides budget oversight and serves as a subject matter expert and management consultant for administrative areas (e.g., Enrollment, Intake and Insurance identification; Bed Management; Oversight of clerical staff); Performs personnel support activities such as recommending hiring selections; evaluating performance; disciplinary actions; investigating patient and/or family member complaints and Determines and manages fund control for a budget, short and long range projections

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts, or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
