This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Conducts tests of medical equipment and medical repair equipment to ensure proper functionality Maintains and/or repairs biomedical equipment by using invasive and non-invasive Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TDME) Analyzes equipment failure modes and take corrective action Utilizes knowledge of techniques, theories, and characteristics of electronics and electricity to service biomedical equipment Evaluates new equipment for compatibility with existing systems, space, and utilities Diagnoses causes of equipment malfunction through application of advances electronic theory Develops preventive maintenance schedules for equipment and systems Provides mentoring and technical training on the set-up, operation, and calibration of medical equipment and systems to less experienced technicians and operators

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has been designated as "Emergency-Essential". Emergency-Essential designation takes precedence over any transportation agreement or military recall status.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.
  • This position requires the incumbent to possess, or obtain and maintain, a valid regular or official U.S. Passport.
  • This position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 40% of the time.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience Statement: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) Working as a biomedical equipment technician or engineer on a wide variety of electronic, electromechanical, and hydraulic medical equipment such as: patient monitors, defibrillators, ventilators, anesthesia machines, radiographic imaging systems, or other life-supporting equipment; (2) Using electronic test equipment (Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE)) in the act of troubleshooting, servicing, and calibrating a wide variety of electronic, electromechanical, or hydraulic medical equipment used in healthcare facilities; (3) Performing preventive / scheduled maintenance services on a wide variety of electronic, electromechanical, or hydraulic medical equipment used in healthcare facilities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
