We protect and secure Congress so it can fulfill its constitutional and legislative responsibilities in a safe, secure and open environment.

Duties

This position is located in the Property and Asset Management Division, Office of Facilities and Logistics (OFL), Office of the Chief Administrative Officer, United States Capitol Police (USCP). Performs tasks involving acquisition; receiving; accountability of equipment, materials and supplies; and processing excess/surplus property. Researches, reviews, evaluates, and organizes information and data to produce and present reports and analyses focused on inventory management issues and problems. Identifies issues and researches and performs preliminary analysis of basic information and data. Administers inventory of police equipment, and uniforms, issues equipment and uniforms to new officers and replacement items to others, and establishes and maintains related individual records to track proper utilization and accountability. Receives and screens requesting documents specifying supplies and materials required for work operations and fills orders from stock or requisitions from suppliers. Ensures accountability of firearms, ammunition, and holsters within the Rayburn Range. Maintains records and files such as purchase requests, receiving reports, and bi-annual physical inventory listings as required by the Property and Asset Management Division and any federal, state, or USCP policy. Makes appropriate entries in Maximo including, logging in and issuing out weapons, ammunition, and equipment, as necessary. Conducts bi-annual count of on-site weapons and ammunition, to be reconciled within Maximo. Picks up mail from the U.S. Post Office. Receives, resorts, opens and routes all incoming mail, publications, directives, and other mailed items. Independently sorts mail by office symbol, by addressee, and by subject matter. Receives shipments, reviews documents to establish identifying information and content of shipment, enters shipment data into computer system and arranges for collection by ordering office. Enters major equipment into inventory control system. Operates a motor vehicle in order to deliver mail, packages, and cargo to various locations throughout the dispersed Capitol complex. Vehicle is driven on the basis of specific trip assignments or regularly established schedules over public roads at highway and street speeds throughout the highly congested Capitol Hill and Washington, DC urban area. Delivers and processes incoming and outgoing mail to 22 different locations with multiple offices at many of those locations, presorting mail as the route continues. Determines type of mail to be used including handling of controlled mail (i.e., Registered, Certified, Express Mail or United Parcel Service (UPS) or Federal Express, as required). Delivers to Post Office within a designated time frame. May transport USCP personnel within the Capitol Complex and outside facilities. On a regular basis, picks up USCP uniforms from various locations within the Capitol Complex for laundry transport for cleaning.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. For the CP-6/GS-8 you must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least CP-5/GS-7 level, which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled, and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized Experience is defined as experience which includes: 1) performs tasks involving acquisition; receiving; accountability of equipment, materials and supplies; and processing excess/surplus property; 2) independently research vendors, initiate contracts and negotiate prices to ensure the best value for all purchases; 3) administers inventory of police equipment, and uniforms, issues equipment and uniforms to new officers and replacement items to others; accountability of weapons and ammunition, and 4) operates a motor vehicle in order to deliver mail, packages, and cargo to various locations.
