You will serve as a BOILER PLANT OPERATOR in the PUBLIC WORKS BUSINESS LINE, UEM PRODUCT LINE of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will repair component parts (e.g., ducts, stacks, pumps, gauges, meters, relief valves) to maintain boiler equipment operation. You will adjust and regulate chemical proportioning pumps and boiler blowdown equipment to maintain efficient operations. You will use measuring and testing devices to determine source of boiler malfunctions. You will check measurement devices (e.g., feed water regulators, flow meters, flue gas temperature gauges, water level indicators) to determine if boilers are operating within prescribed limits.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Monitor boiler water, chemicals, or fuel and make adjustments to maintain required levels; 2) Analyze meters and gauges to monitor conditions affected by load changes, steam pressures, oil pressures and temperatures, fuel flow, or air flow; 3) Read gauges and boiler water level indicators to confirm equipment is functioning normally; 4) Observe readings on gauges, meters, detectors, recorders, boiler water indicators, or computer generated and analog displays to detect danger signals in operations; and 5) Measure temperature, flow, and pressures of boiler and boiler auxiliary systems to evaluate system performance. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
