About the Position: In this position you will serve as project manager and technical expert in areas involving navigation, dredging, and channel maintenance within the District. Work includes planning, budgeting, scheduling and environmental coordination and negotiations, The incumbent carries out both navigation project planning and execution duties and also serves as the primary focal point and interface with customers, agencies, and the general public for assigned projects.

Duties

Analyzes results of site-specific hydrographic surveys to determine the appropriate short and/or long-term action necessary for assuring that project dimensions are maintained in an efficient manner. Studies shoaling trends and hydraulic relationships to establish guidelines for optimal scheduling of hydrographic surveys. Has overall management responsibility for channel maintenance improvement projects designed to reduce or control dredging requirements. Evaluates overall requirements, recommends, and prepares schedules and methods of dredging operations. Discuss and negotiate terms and conditions for permit requests with involved State, local and Federal agencies. Uses oral and written communication skills to prepare and provide briefings and technical presentations to the public, agencies, navigation industry, legislators and politicians at all levels. Coordinates the regulatory and public interest aspects involved in dredging, dredged material management, and channel improvement projects. Independently organizes and conducts public and interagency meetings.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be qualified to drive government vehicles and small motorboats.
  • The position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid state issued motor vehicle driver's license.
