The selectee for this position will serve as a Firefighter (Paramedic) in the AC/S Security and Emergency Services Division of MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON.

Duties

You will prioritize emergency treatment of patients suffering from multiple traumas to stabilize the patient and increase their chance of survival. You will respond to emergencies as a member of an Engine Company, Truck Company, Rescue Company, Hazardous Materials Team and/or a Rescue Team with associated vehicle and equipment. You will employ hazardous material response procedures and equipment to mitigate dangerous combustible material incidents. You will participate in daily training and instruction classes covering all phases of fire protection, fire prevention and emergency medical services. You will perform thorough safety and maintenance inspections on emergency transport vehicles and provide first echelon maintenance repairs as required.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You must posses a current valid United States drivers license and you must be able and be able to obtain a California Department of Motor Vehicles Firefighter Endorsement within thirty (30) days of appointment.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You must be able and willing to work varying and/or rotating shifts and the selectee must be willing to work a 72 hour work week or 144 hours per pay period. You will be subject to work an uncommon tour of duty.
  • You must possess a valid State of California Paramedic License or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians - Paramedic (EMT-P) certification and obtain and maintain a valid county of San Diego accreditation within 60 days of appointment.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • GS-08: Selectee must successfully complete any and all training to include IFSAC Firefighter I and II levels in a maximum of 24 months of appointment.
  • GS-09: You must be DOD or IFSAC certified in Firefighter I/II.
  • GS-08/09: You must be DOD or IFSAC certified in Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

Qualifications

GS-08: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: serving as a Firefighter AND Paramedic providing emergency medical response and treatment (e.g., Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR); basic, intermediate, and advanced life support (ALS); airway management, emergency childbirth, mass casualty triage), rescue operations (e.g., high and low angle rescue, trench confined space rescue, auto extrication) and transporting emergency personnel and patients safely to emergency room. GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: serving as a Firefighter AND Paramedic performing and providing structural and wild land firefighting, emergency medical response and treatment (e.g., Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR); basic, intermediate, and advanced life support (ALS); airway management, emergency childbirth, mass casualty triage), rescue operations (e.g., high and low angle rescue, trench confined space rescue, auto extrication), hazardous materials response, responding to airfield and aircraft emergencies, and transporting emergency personnel and patients safely to emergency room.
