You will serve as a Equipment Specialist in the Inspection Branch (Code 721), Inspection, Test and Quality Assurance Division of the Deputy Lifting and Handling Department (Code 701), Lifting and Handling Department (Code 700) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will receive official correspondence, engineering plans, technical drawings, work requests, and other official documents citing major overhaul, construction, repair, or general preventative maintenance. You will visit worksites and meet with the head of requesting department for clarification of scope of work, technical consideration, proper funding, and general discussion of proposed work. You will act as a liaison between Lifting and Handling Department divisions by preparing technical work documents for engineering services. You will prepare man hour and material estimates for crane maintenance, repair, alterations/modifications, overhauls, construction, and/or improvements. You will originate and prepare working drawings and sketches. You will prepare Technical Work Documents (TWD) such as Crane Work Instructions (CWI), sketches and other associated documents dealing with corrective maintenance and repair actions. You will prepare a bill of material for each job. You will schedule and perform inspections on Category I, II, and III WHE for the Inspection, Test, and Quality Assurance Division, and prepare written inspection reports.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Qualifications

GS-09 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience receiving official correspondence, engineering plans, technical drawings, work request and other official documents citing major overhaul, construction, repair, alterations/modifications, improvement and/or general preventative maintenance. Experience acting as a liaison between lifting and handling department division by preparing technical work documents for and request etc., engineering services. Experience providing technical advice and field assistance to crane reengineering for the most economical method to accomplish WHE tasks. Experience preparing work drawings and sketches, complete with detail employing creative thinking in areas of design and general engineering in connection with maintenance repair and improvement. Experience preparing bill of material for each job providing stock and/or part numbers unit costs and availability data on all standard stock material. Experience conducting and recording maintenance inspections of category I, II and 555 WHE in accordance with provisions of the NAVSEA, NAVFAC and local instructions utilizing specification for drawing, manuals, standard procedure. Experience conducting special inspections to provide information to the inspection, test and quality assurance division for decisions on repairs and economical solutions to defects on equipment. GS-07 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

GS-09

master's or equivalent graduate degree

or

2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

or

LL.B. or J.D., if related

GS-07

1 full year of graduate level education

or

superior academic achievement
