Duties
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing substantive legal support to the District of Arizona. Typical work assignments include:
Serving as a technician in the area of financial litigation and is responsible for directly and independently supporting Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) by providing a wide variety of technical assistance services.
Performs a wide range of technical support duties involving the processing of cases within the financial litigation function.
Using a variety of automated systems to conduct research, initiate documents for debt collection actions and track debtor accounts.
Using common online resources, obtains and analyzes routine financial information on debtors to determine their present and future potential ability to pay.
Communicates with debtors to present options for debt payments, answer questions, explain pertinent procedures, clarify information, and work cases to resolution.
Prepares payment plans which involve reviewing financial asset information the debtor has submitted.
Performs periodic internal control audits of financial litigation and debt collection case records to ensure accuracy of program operations.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable
- If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
- You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
Qualifications
GS-7: To be eligible at the GS-7 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level.
Specialized experience is defined as communicating with debtors on payment plans, answering questions, explaining procedures regarding financial litigation; processing debt collection for criminal and civil debts; drafts, prepares letters, forms and reports to initiate the collection of debts.
GS-8: To be eligible at the GS-8 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level.
Specialized experience is defined as performing internal control audits of financial litigation and debt collection; investigates complicated financial assets and transactions and provides analyses of information from debtors; interpret and enforce judgments in criminal cases pertaining to financial litigation to include criminal fines, assessments, interests, penalties, restitution, criminal forfeitures, bond forfeitures and court costs; participating in decisions concerning post judgment remedies such as garnishments and judgments debtor examinations.
Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
