This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) Facilities and the Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position will be filled at the GS-10 grade level or the GS-11 grade level. The full performance grade level of this position is GS-11.

Duties

Research/develop new components and recommends enhanced design techniques. Coordinate and integrate design tasks and resolve design problems with other technical personnel. Perform final evaluation of new design and assures that all equipment is operating properly while conducting system tests, including field-testing. Fabricate specialized fixtures including circuit board assembly, soldering surface mount and miniature type components, chassis wiring, and miscellaneous component and assembly testing. Maintain technical documentation on all designs and test results.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. GS-10 - One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Installing and/or repairing electronic systems; 2) Providing technical support to various electronic activities; AND 3) Assisting in the development of standard operating procedures for technical work on electronics and/or industrial systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). GS-11 - One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Preparing designs and recommending design changes to equipment or parts; 2) Utilizing computer software such as Logistic Modernization Project (LMP) to prepare documents and input data; AND 3) Developing standard operating procedures for technical work on electronics and/or industrial systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).
